Insomnia

As I lay awake, sprawled on my bed,
my sheets all piled in a heap,
It's obvious what my problem is.
It seems I cannot get to sleep.

What seems so simple and easy a task,
giving our bodies what they need,
becomes a difficult goal to obtain.
Quite a daunting task indeed.

Why must I endure such suffering as this?
I really start to wonder.
I've asked others the same, to find what might
subdue this "anti-slumber".

De-caf and Nytol run through my veins.
But in my body still lies this perk.
I've listened to music, mowed the lawn,
and none of these seem to work!

I can recite my own list of state capitals,
and vomit my own flock of sheep.
Why is it, when the clock reads 12 P.M.
I can never get to sleep?!
